Biography

Jaemin Kim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Korea University, where he also served in the Republic of Korea Army, demonstrating his commitment to both academics and service. During his tenure at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), he pursued a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Ocean Engineering, and played a pivotal role in advancing efficient finite element methods for structural dynamics. Under the guidance of Prof. Phill-Seung Lee, Jaemin earned his Master's degree from KAIST.

Subsequently, he further enriched his skill set as a structural engineer at Samsung C&T Corporation, actively contributing to a wide array of engineering projects. These experiences at KAIST and Samsung C&T fueled his passion for academic exploration, leading him to embark on a M.S. and Ph.D. journey in Mechanical Engineering at Cornell University. There, under the mentorship of Prof. Nikolaos Bouklas, Jaemin focused on developing theoretical and computational multiphysics models for soft solids, particularly tissues and hydrogels.

Continuing his dedicated research journey, Jaemin became part of the Oden Institute of Computational Engineering and Science at the University of Texas at Austin in July 2023. Under the guidance of Prof. Michael S. Sacks, he persists in the development of theoretical and computational methods, this time with a focus on neurovascular systems in vivo mechanics for clinical applications. In a collaborative effort with esteemed colleagues, Dr. Saber and Dr. Payadafar at Dell Medical School, Jaemin Kim aims to quantify in vivo vessel wall deformations and elucidate local in-vivo mechanical behaviors, particularly in relation to aneurysm instability.
